I'm plannig on purchasing a Trek 1000 from a friend and was wondering if there was a quick way to tell if it would be too small. (example - the top of the frame should come 5 inches from my waste??) Idk im not looking to a perfect fit, just want some ideas where peoples bike frames come to on them. Thanks

You do want a perfect fit or the bike wont be comfortable to ride. Stand over the bike and you should have 1-2 inches of clearance between you and the top tube. If it is too close you will have to stretch to reach the hoods, too far away you will feel cramped. Sit on the bike with your hands on the hoods it should feel natural and when you look at the front axle it should line up with the flat part of the handlebar.

Every bike sold is different according to models and manufacturers and no two are the same along with every person being different that is why being fitted is important.

Things to consider in proper bike fit besides frame height are seat height and seat positioning, Handle bar Height and reach, crank arm length, all these thing have to be considered in determining proper bike fit. You use two measurements to determine frame size. Height and inseam, Of the two measurements inseam is more important.

You can use the chart below to get an ( Idea ) of the recommended frame size for someone your Height and Inseam should ride but you really need to go to a bike shop and be fitted .

If you follow the link below there is a Related article: Adjusting Your Bike For Proper Fit there and it will explain all the things you need to take into consideration.

It relies upon on how previous you're, how long your palms are, what your toso length is, what your inseam is, how tight or flexable you're or maybe how long your ft are. HAving mentioned all which you will fall contained in this style of a fifty two to a fifty six cm physique. those are the extremes. Get on some motorcycles that length and decide for a rid. Assuming the stem isn't too long you will detect a length you are able to stand over and experience at abode on. don't greater healthful your physique to the bike - greater healthful the bike on your physique. do not fall prey to overall performance claims and purchase a bike that's merely too super, and don't be lured right into a bike that's merely too small because of the fact :this is greater well-off". the perfect bike will experience good. each and every little thing will fall into place. At this factor go away the save and are available back later. Does it nonetheless experience solid? if so you are able to start up high-quality tuning the greater healthful with diverse rises and attain's interior the stem. do not forget that handlebars are available in diverse widths And reaches! The attain distinction is a great tunning help. Seatposts are available in diverse quantities of setback - it is the way you modify for leg length.....this is a mushy area....of very previous "regulations" - in case you do not push a brilliant kit your knees would be ok.... so as that's the way you choose which physique length. there are various "experts" obtainable, yet none of them have your physique - hear to it!
