Question:
Identifying Marzocchi forks?

I recently bought a used 2004 Specialized Big Hit SPEC on Ebay, and it has what are supposed to be Marzocchi 888 forks. Unfortunately there are no stickers or decals that would indicated whether or not these are Marzocchi's and what model 888 they are (assuming that they are, infact, Marzocchi's). I was wondering whether or not there is a way that I can identify what these forks are? Is there a serial number somewhere on the fork?

I plan on sending them to Marzocchi to rebuilt, so I would like to know what I have before I send them in. Thanks to everybody in advance! More questions to come soon!

A dual crown fork with black stanchions is a very basic description and I don't think that it'll be of much help getting your fork identified.

A few photos of the fork might help to identify it, otherwise you'll only get guesses of what it is. If it is a 888 then it could be one of around 20 different models spanning over 5 years, have a look on the Marzocchi website, they have photos and brief descriptions of forks dating back to 2001.

The answers saying that it must be a 888 if it's a Marzocchi and has a dual crown are wrong, the 888's aren't the only dual crown fork that Marzocchi made, doesn't anyone remember the Junior T, Super T, Monster T, Super Monster, Shiver DC and Drop Off Triple. Some models of these forks also had black stanchions as well.

*EDIT* For baldbaddy or whatever your name is, I'm so sorry for upsetting you questioning your great knowledge and I'm sure you didn't really mean it when you called me those names, anyhow read on and you might learn something:

Aftermarket Marzocchi Dual Crowns Forks that had Black Stanctions.

2004: 888-R, Junior T, Super T Pro.

2005: 888-RC, 888-VF, Junior T, Shiver DC.

2006: 888-RC2X, 888-V2F, Junior T, Drop Off Triple(OEM).

2007: 888-RC2X, 888-RCV, 888-SL-ATA, Super T RCV.

2008: 888-RC3, 888-RCV.

2009: 888-RC3, 888-RCV.

2010: 888-RC3-EVO, 888-RCV.

* The 2005 Shiver DC might be an inverted fork but it still has black stanctions & dual crowns.

* There's a few more forks that were OEM models which could be added as well.

* There's only 2 models I had previously mentioned that didn't have black stanctions at some time or another, the Monster T and the Super Monster and I mentioned all those forks before the "Asker" added that the fork has black stanchions .

* The 1st paragraph is a later addition that was added after the info on black stanchions was added as is the last sentence of the 3rd paragraph.

* You say some of the forks I mentioned have a bolt on M cross support/arch, silver screws and red M's, how do you know the fork doesn't have these things, have you actually seen it? has anyone actually said that it doesn't?

* At least I've provided a useful link where the 'Asker' can view photos and read descriptions many Marzocchi forks from different years.

Well... it's actually pretty easy to tell. Marzocchi only makes one dual crown fork, the 888. If you have two crowns (the things that bolt on to the stanchions), then it's a 888. Do they look like the one's in this picture? http://www.pinkbike.com/photo/3997710/

Those are 2004 Zocchi 888 RCV2X forks on a buddy of mine's V10. If they look at all like that, they're 2003-2007 888's of one variety or another. The newer ones are a bit beefier; http://www.pinkbike.com/photo/3605003/ like these on my Stinky Sup.

Here's a stock photo of the '04s...

http://nsmb.com/images/gear/Marzocchisessions/888.jpg

as you can see they were pretty blacked out from the factory which is why a lot of people chose to remove the rest of the badging....

Edit- @Peter... You could'nt be more wrong than you are. Each of the other forks you listed have significant identifying factors which are covered in 'dual crown, black stanchions' that clearly indicate he is riding a 888 between '04 and '06 and, given that it was easily the most highly produced, almost certainly the RC2X from '05. Just to give you an idea of you just made yourself look like an idiot by assuming you had a clue.... The Shiver is an inverted fork and the stanchions are silver dipshit... Super T, Junior T... again, silver stanchions smart guy.. not to mention the fact they both incorporate a giant Marzocchi "M" as a bolt-on cross support and look nothing at all like a 888. The Drop Off triple, closer but it had silver bolts atop the stanchions and the red "M" was paited on, not a decal.... Perhaps next time you say "everyone is wrong" you should make sure you know what you're talking about.

Way to make yourself look like an idiot though...

It is definitely a marzocchi if the arch on the fork is sort of shaped like an M. They are 888's but idk about the trim.

How about taking a picture of it so we can see it. There probably isnt a serial # on the fork anyway.

a picture would be nice, but if they are double crown and 203mm of travel, they have to be 888, if the stanchions are black, they are defenantly 888's

most people remove the stickers, dunno why, i made custom ones for my boxxer :)
