Question:
Should I wait for now?

I have what you could call a BSO or a "MTB wanna be". It has withstanded going down stairs, "semi-off-road" terrain, wheelies, and bunny hopping. I am still surprised by how this bike is taking all this.

What I want to know is if I should get a better, real MTB from a bike shop, or wait and use my current bike to build my skills until this bike brakes.

*I can afford <$400 in case you would like to give suggestions on mountain bikes

Keep the clunker running and save more money.

When you amass $800 - $1000 you can get a nice MTB.

a good mtb would cost you in the range of $1000 so i would keep your current bike and build up the skills and maybe save up and put together $1000 and buy a decent bike

$400 is not enough keep riding your BSO
