1989. The Tour ended with an individual time trial. Laurent Fignon eschewed the aerodynamic helmet and went sans lid, with his long ponytail flapping in the breeze. LeMond made wiped out the 50 second defecit he had entering the last stage and beat Fignon by 8 seconds - it still stands today as the closest winning margin in Tour de France history.

Hey long duk, wasn't that also the stage where Lemond showcased his new aerodynamic time trial bars????
Fignon was a punk that deserved to lose.
