I am looking for a hybrid/road/exercise bike. This will be my first bike since my BMX bike I had 15 yrs ago. I am looking for a nice bike that well last a long time. I'll mainly use it on the road for exercise and family fun. I already bought my son a Trek trailer bike to attach to a bike that I haven't decided to buy yet.

2007 Trek 7.6 FX hybrid flat bar road bike in like new condition for $850
(plus clipless pedals and specialized bar ends)
2007 very lightly used Cannondale Bad Boy Disc for $740
2009 brand new Trek 7.3 FX from LBS for $550

I would visit the local Trek shop and look at them and find out what size you need, the same thing goes for the Cannondale. That will help you decide and you may find the Cannondale new for just a little more then the used one. Fit is first.

The more expensive the better. That's a given and the Trek is a very good bike. I have the fuel EX 9.0 and it rocks but I do a lot of racing. incl. multi stages. It depends what you want to do with it.

With MTB, it's the components that are important and not so much the frame as the components take a beating. If it is social mountain biking you are looking at then you may not need to spend that much on the bike. I can go on and on and but just no space and time to write. (This is my passion)

There's a pretty cool website which has a daily article posted on various aspects relating to Mountain biking which also includes reviews on varying components. Its worth checking out and subscribing to the RSS feed. I rate it for beginners who want to learn more about MTB

The website is: www.mountainbikebook.com/blog

Get the Cannondale Bad Boy disc. They work very well on and off road, and its the only bike of the bunch that can be built into a 21lb race machine, due to the incredibly lightweight frame and Headshok fork.

You will NOT be disappointed!
