Question:
Anyone have experience with Specialized Allez?

I am thinking about buying my first good quality road bike and have been looking at a Specialized Allez. http://www.specialized.com/us/en/bikes/road/allez/allez I'm not looking into racing or anything competitive and this bike is within my price range. It will be an exercise bike going for 60-80 miles a week. From what bike shop owners have told me, this bike will be good for my usage. Anyway here are my questions:

1.) Can anyone give me some personal experience on this bike?

2.) I'm currently riding a road bike from a big box store. My brother gave it to me because he doesn't ride it anymore. Will there be a big difference in riding when I switch to the Specialized Allez?

3.) Finally, is the bike shop owner correct? Does it fit my usage?

Thanks guys.

I would recommend the Allez to you. It's an excceptional bike and even the entry-level model will be leaps better than the dept store bike. I used to own an Allez (two different ones to be exact) and both were exceptional and delivered a lot of trouble-free miles. The bike shop owner was right. It will fulfill your needs and do a good job at it.

Your Specialized dealer is doing a good job for you. They are selling you an entry level bike and don't seem to be trying to upsell you to a more expensive model. The biggest difference you will see with the new bike is fit, most big box store bikes are sold in only one size that probably isn't a perfect fit. Personal experience with a bike is of little use. A bike that is a good fit for my body proportions and riding style may not be right for you. If you have tested a few bikes and settled on this one, trust yourself. I don't believe in pushing my preferences onto other people. This bike will be lighter than the one you are currently riding but the weight will not be the biggest difference. As long as the shop takes the time to fit the bike properly, the bike will feel much more natural for you. A good bike should feel like an extension of your body

Well, since the only info I have about you comes from the paragraph you have written and you haven't provided any detail about the bike you currently ride other than it being a mass market road bike there is NO WAY to offer input.

Go back to the shop and ask to test ride the Spec. That will give you irrefutable information on it's quality of ride. If the shop doesn't allow test rides, forget them and find a shop that does. NEVER buy a bike without teat riding.

Go take one for a test ride that bike will be light years ahead of what you are use to. The new Claris components are a nice change over the older Sora ones. The bike will be lighter and feel stronger then your old one.

The bike will be fine for your use. The only problem being that you will love it so much you will start riding 60-80 miles a DAY.

You might want to go one step higher, to like Sora, if you can afford it. I believe the 2400 Claris is like the older 2300. Nothing wrong with it, but Sora and above is much better and you should get it now if possible.
