Question:
Can I attach drop handlebars to my Hybrid cycle?

Hi, I'm fairly new to cycling and bought my self a hybrid-road bike a week ago. I mainly cycle on the road but live in an area where it gets a bit bumpy in places and I occasionally have to cycle on a dirt path. This is why I bought a hybrid rather than a road bike. (Was this the right thing to do? The shop assistant wasn't much help). I was wondering if I could attach drop bars rather than the standard straight bars to add a bit more comfort while riding.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Origin8 makes drop bar type extensions.

Not sure if they're sold in the U.K. But they are here in the USA, at least on Amazon.com.

Check around over there.

I mean you could if you wanted to. Problem is your shifters and brakes. You could get new ones that are made for drop bars... or you could put them towards the center of the drop bars if the diameter of the handlebars are the, but that would be kind of stupid. It can be done, but it'd be a lot of work. Drop bars might even be less comfortable. Depends on the person though!

Getting a hybrid was a good idea though! :D

I would do the drop extensions. I would NOT do the clip on aero bars if you are new to cycling.

The other option besides hybrid would have been a cyclocross bike.

not really

you would need new brake levers, shifters, cost more than the bike is worth

just ask for ''bar ends'' at the shop

that is the best cheapest thing to do, to add hand positions

$40 at most

Another option would be clip on aerobars. Give your hands a break, and very helpful if you find yourself fighting a headwind.

You sure can. Put anything you like as long as your comfy. Good Luck
