I am buying a bike at the Keswick Cycles ( if that helps) and i want the best mountain bike in the price range of 300 - 500 dollars

Look at the Specialized, Cannondale or the Raleigh bikes. Get a hard-tail with V brakes. For the money the Forge bikes are very nice. The 5XX is a very good bike for the money. I bought the forge Saranac this summer and it's a shop quality bike. The only problem is that you have to mail order and assemble it yourself.
