the two styles are very different

XC bikes are made to go fast in flats up hill be stiff and efficient limited travel normally 100-120

Downhill bikes are made to go fast down soak up everything and move well through corners fast. They do not climb well as they are often heavy and have huge efficiency losses going uphill

That being said a bike that leans toward AM or Trail is a one quiver bike.

The stumpjumper is in that category as are many others. It is a good bike for sure

I ride a FS XC bike and take it everywhere. It works well for me. I am more concerned about climbing faster rather than descending faster. Having been on a hardtail for decades any rear suspension was a treat. I have had the bike for a bit more than a year and love it. The Stumpjumper was either # 2 or # 3 choice of the more than 20 I rode before making a decision.

Good luck

Doubtful. A downhill bike takes a LOT of abuse needing full suspension. And exactly which Stumpjumper??? They make about NINE different models.

Sure, it would be fine. It is not going to be great for full on downhill, but 130mm of suspension travel is fine for beginning downhill.

You want an all mountain bike for that.
