Question:
Do you have multiple bikes?

I'm starting to get pretty serious about cycling as a form of transportation, and some destinations seem better suited for certain bike types. one place may be all smooth pavement, so a road bike would be good, and I found out that I have a really convenient bike trail that connects a lot of cities around me, but that seems more MTB friendly.

so do you own multiple bikes, if so, why? what about what I said up there?

I have 4 bikes. One is an old steel road bike that is permanently assigned to trainer duty. It gets a lot of use. I also have a carbon fiber Giant road bike with "granny" gearing and a titanium Seven road bike with standard gearing. The Giant is used for really hilly rides and the Seven for all other road rides. I also keep an inexpensive Schwinn hybrid for riding on reasonably smooth trails, as far off the road as I care to venture.

Why? Because once I have a bike, I usually keep it as long as it's rideable. I've ridden all 4 of my bikes in the last month. I buy a new bike when I want one, usually because of "bike lust." Like the Seven -- I didn't need it, but want and need don't have anything to do with each other. I have given bikes away to charity when they are near the end of their useful life, but still safely rideable. Charities are glad to get them.

=i got them and don;t want to sell them

or have not yet

mainly i have 2 road bikes

one with fenders and one without

fender bike being rain bike

then i have another road bike i like but don;t want to ride or sell

and a mt bike with street tires

and a folding mt bike with street tires

and a 1966 french peugeot mixte that has a lot of modern mods

either of those 3 will become my 'baby trailer pulling bike'

b/c of really low gears

and the folding one may be useful some day for its folding

what about what I said up there?

==what part?

==i don;t do mt biking at all so if i have a mt bike it is because it has low gears and i put streetish tires on it/those

the 66 peugeot and the fender bike [fuji finest 2002] could also become touring bikes to varying degrees

or maybe i will sell the peugeot for a high price, waiting a long time if i have to

by then i may love it or hate it, affecting the price

several of them i got pretty cheap

Yes I have several bikes mountain, 2 comfort / mountain, hybrid, and 2 road bikes. There is nothing better then a road bike on the road. The hybrid is my bike path bike it's faster then the comfort bikes.

Northern

It is not uncommon to own multiple bikes, mostly for multiple needs. A mtn and road bike are classic examples. I have a road bike, a tri bike, and a tandem. If need be my wife and kids bike can quickly be adapted for my use for hybrid or mtn bike use.

I ride a touring bike to work because its steel and durable. I ride the above when I do around 20 miles, I got a carbon fiber when I want to do more. I'm building a Colnago Dream because I always wanted one. I don't have a mtb, too slow.

Different bikes perform different tasks. Or, are designed to function in a different manner or are designed for longer or shorter trips.
