Giant did for a while make almost all of specialized frames but since a large amount of specialized was bought by Merida(Taiwanese frame builder) they now make some of the frame....other builder are Ideal, and Giant.

you might also like to know that giant also make many of the frame for trek and all but a few Select models, OCLV carbon, and customs are made in asia

Even if a particular frame or model of Specialized is made by Giant, it will have to be made to the specifications of Specialized, and to meet the price that Specialized wants to pay. Engineers of Specialized would clearly define materials of the tube, the design, even the type of welding and depending on the price, whether the welding is going to be smooth or not. So even if an Specialized is made by Giant, it is still an Specialized, not a Giant. Specialized could in theory demand higher standards and specify different materials, designs and finishes.

Giant is one of very few manufacturers who build frames in their own facility. Specialized outsources their framebuilding. Don't know if Giant builds frames for them, but it wouldn't be a bad place to have their frames built rather than some company that makes all sorts of other products

They are all very comparible bikes. But when it comes down to it I think Specialized is your best bet. Reason being I've sold all three bikes and have seen less problems with the Specialized. Also the Specialized has a good mix of components. But when it all comes down to it take them and ride them all. See what feels better to you. What you want to pay attention to the most is how your arms and shoulders feel, i.e. to stretched out, to confined, and so on. But for gods sake get the right size the dealer should be able to help you out with this. Just keep in mind fit, fit, fit. Legs, arms, and shoulders.

Giant does make frames for other companies but it's hard to say who or what models. I know they made the Schwinn and Nishiki frames for a while they decided to manufacture their own bikes.
