I'm looking for the best road bike $500 could buy. I'm using it to commute from one place to another quickly. Something with a high gear ratio or something

Your price is too low for a good road bike. Try $650 to $700.

Other brands might be Giant, Raleigh or the new line of road bikes from SE Bikes.

You can always find decent road bikes on your local Craigslist.org. If you live in a small area then check out the local metro area and see what you can find there. You don't HAVE to buy new to get something worth buying. I have found 6 different recumbent bikes on my local and area craigslist.org (one was on Ebay and Craigslist 200+ miles away but we both traveled and made the deal happen). Just think outside the box. Your local bike shops might have some used road bikes that are worth checking out and or they might do a payment plan and hold it if what you like costs more than you can afford right now.

Just keep a open mind and you will find what you are seeking. I did!

That's ridiculous !!! The Al-1 Nashbar and Motobecane Mirage S are top notch rides in this price range. Cheers !
