I'm looking to get into biking and currently have a piece of junk big box bicycle. I'd primarily be using the bike for short/moderate trips and commuting but would like to take it off road on dirt paths and parks once in a while. I've been looking at Craigslist and came across a 2001 Cannondale Bad Boy Ultra with 2 sets of tires (MTB/Hybrid) for $425:

Looking over the past MSRP and 'blue book' value it seems to be reasonably priced assuming some play in price. Would this be a good bike to get my feet wet with? Or should I look for something newer?

Almost all headshoks can have a standard 1 1/8 shock installed with the proper headset. I think there might be one 2 frames that are not compatible (moto and claymore).

I think the deal is okay, since a set of wheels will easily cost you $200 or more.

it is ''small'' size

who knows what that means

guessing it is not for someone over 5'5"

price too high, also

should be about 300

extra wheels or not

if you are mostly on the road don;t get a mt bike

I think the price isn't bad as long as everything is in good shape. It is no mountain bike, it is basically a hybrid with front suspension. All quality parts on it. The only thing to watch for is the fork. The Headshock is proprietary to Cannondale, nobody else makes it or services it so if you have a problem you have to take the bike to a Cannondale dealer. If ever the fork fails for good, you would have a lot of trouble replacing it. The 2 sets of wheels make for a very versatile package, almost like 2 bikes in one

If your serious about biking, you really should go to a professional retailer such as walmart or target instead of craigslist.
