Renova bicycles makes absolutely stunning bikes. I have never heard, or read that wood is a better or as good of a material for performance bicycles. You will find Renova tries to make a strong case, that a wooden bike is on par with carbon, better material than aluminum and steel. What do you think?

never happen for racing
too flexy
wastes energy heating the frame as it bends
plus control issues at high speeds
'stunning' doesn;t equal 'winning'

Wood is light and strong. It's also way flexier than carbon, so you would never see a professional rider on a wooden bike.
Those wooden bikes and bamboo bikes and similar bikes are all boutique bikes, collectors' items, if you will. Of course they're completely rideable, but they're not meant to be ridden very seriously. There are much better materials with which to build a bike frame.
